Kindergarten

Welcome to the glorified game of bee-hive.  Do not break up the bee-hive.  :-)
  • Kids at this age are beginning to develop self-concept, body awereness and self-image through movement.
  • They are egocentric, see the world only from their point of view and they all want the ball.
  • They all need generous praise and want to play without pressure.
  • Most influential person in their lives is their mother or the significant parent.
  • They may verbalize team, but do not fully comprehend group or collective play.  They can only do one task at a time and process small pieces of information at a time.
  • Emphasize game play that they can relate to such as pirates, Ninja Turtles, etc..

Practices should be 45 minutes at length
Emphasize proper kicking techniques
Introduce the concept of passing but be very patient
Introduce dribbling
Do let the best player hog the ball, and use her as an example to other players
Games/scrimmages should be played 4v4 without goalies allowing everyone a chance to score thus maximizing FUN
