About The Program
The Mahwah Youth Soccer Program is proud to offer an “All-Star” Program designed for special needs children between the ages of 5 through 18. This is a non-competitive co-ed program to introduce the basic skills of the game and work on fundamentals in a safe environment while having lots of fun.
The program will begin in September and last for 6 weeks. All participants will also be invited to participate in the Mahwah Day parade and Picture Day.
“Buddies” from ages 12 to 21 and adult volunteers work with your child and adapt the program based on the individual child’s needs. This program is available for any special needs children in Mahwah or neighborhood towns.
This program is for children between the ages of 5 through 18 diagnosed with developmental disabilities (mental and/or physical impairments). All children must have a parent or guardian at the field at all times. Parents are welcome to assist but are not required.
NOTE: With regard to safety concerns for all our players and volunteers, Mahwah Recreation Department reserves the right to determine whether or not a player’s skill level exceeds what is appropriate for this special needs program since safety is the number one priority.
If you have any questions or are unsure whether this program is an appropriate activity for your child, please feel to contact Pete DePasquale at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Note that we are actively seeking a coordinator for this program for the Fall 2020 season! If you interested and ready to help out, please contact Peter ASAP!
This program is a great and rewarding opportunity for a child or an adult to work with a special needs child to make a difference in the person’s life.
You will be assigned to a player to help during a practice or a game. This can include helping a player kick the ball, pass the ball, etc. based on the skills of the child. You must have a lot of patience and be compassionate toward a special needs child. Since this is an important part of this program, this individual must be reliable to show up when scheduled and devote their full attention to the child they are assigned. You help to ensure the child is always safe and alerts the coach/trainer of any concerns or problems.
Please complete this form if you want to volunteer for the Mahwah Soccer All-Star Special Needs Program. You must be over the age of 12 years old.
Mahwah All Stars reserves the right to decline an applicant as safety is our number one priority.
